A rare night out

Remember the days when getting ready to go out started at about 3.00 p.m. with a hair wash and body scrub, lick of paint on your nails and a few drinks with friends before dinner?!  I’m not sure that I do!

Tonight saw us go put for the annual family trip to the Chinese for my Grandads birthday. Now whilst not the biggest event on our social calendar (however small that may be) we do always have a tremendously enjoyable evening and it’s a chance for me to doll up, just a little and pretend not to be a throughly knackered mother.

So here’s how it panned out.
With 45 minutes until we were meant to arrive, I had just got out of the shower and had slapped some foundation on quickly.

15 minutes to go. Sprog was being bathed by hubby and our neice whilst I frantically dried and straightenedy hair (all the while, pausing for photos for this post…obvs!)

5 minutes until we should have arrived…I was straightening as Sprog and hubby were watching the England game on the laptop.  So not how bed time normally happens but nevermind!

5 minutes after we should have arrived…I’m ready…Sprog is in his Pj’s and now we just need to wait for the rugby to finish. Then we’re off!

2 hours later and a lovely meal down, I have giggled my way through a fair amount of wine (my mum kept topping up my glass so I have no idea how much), I tried to skip down the garden path (but my knee hurt from where I bashed it in the afternoon) and I made my neice mildly uncomfortable when she realised that I wasn’t entirely sober. Great dinner out.

Now I’ve had my peppermint tea to ease my aging stomach (sod it!) and I’m crashing into bed…perfect in my eyes. Yummy food, I got to wear a dress, look normal and wash my hair, and it’s still a reasonable time to crash out! Winner!

  1. Aww how lovely do you look?! It’s lovely having a night out but so right that getting ready is always a stress and you’re never on time! Glad you had a fab night 🙂 #sundaystars

  2. You look lovely and i’m glad you got so much joy from a “small social event”,as you put it! I can relate to the old wine trick, my dad does it at all family occasions – I can’t handle any more than a glass without feeling pissed as a fart and getting a cracking hangover set in at the beginning of the second glass. Mum fails! Ray xx #SundayStars

  3. I love dressing up and putting on makeup for an evening out. I don’t think I would have thought about taking pictures with 45 minutes to spare though lol! #sundaystars

    • It was such a rarity and one of those moments where the blog post was forming in my head as it happened so I couldn’t resist taking pictures… I don’t think it slower us down too much

  4. Love it, it was so nice when you could take all day to get ready, now as you say I’m lucky to have 20 minutes. The chinese sounds perfect though. We’ve had too much fun this weekend and I’m regretting it! #sundaystars

  5. It’s amazing how quickly you can go from knackered Mom to goddess when you have kids! And usually with at least one child attached to your hip! Glad you had a night off, their always better when they are rare and end in getting tipsy! 🙂
