Back to reality…probably with a bump

I sit in the study this evening, frantically trying to get through the last few essays that I had to mark over the 2 weeks, with a mixture of emotions.

I know that I like working. I know that I like my independent time. I know that by the end of the week the relaxation of these last 2 weeks will be a distant memory.

(In reality, it’ll probably be by about 10 a.m. tomorrow!)

I grow increasingly anxious and ‘blue’ about going back to school after every break.

I’ve had a wonderful time with Sprog, much of it outside and most of it laughing.

He is the most special and most wonderful little person. A friend’s Facebook status today reminded me that I made him, I grew him, I fed him and I helped to make him into this gorgeous little man.

Over the last two weeks, we have enjoyed so many different things…I could probably write about 10 posts about them (but marking means I don’t have time, and let’s face it my smug smiley face might get boring!)

It’s the time for the little day-to-day things that I will miss the most. Sprog helping put the washing out and bring it in…me with a peg on my nose…hilarious! Walking hand in hand to the car because we have time to go at a slower pace and I’m not rushing us around. And having our dinner, all three of us at the same time.

I will leave you with a selection of photos from our break together… These are the ones that I will print out and have by my desk to spur me on when I don’t want to keep going.

There you have it, my happy little world with my happy little dude, without work and just having fun.

The little things that make me happy

It’s all too easy to become stuck in our daily routines, whatever they may be, and to forget to enjoy the little things. For example, this weekend is a very exciting moment in my life. I’m going to the cinema! I’m honestly a little giggly inside at the thought. I haven’t been at all in the last 18 months and it feels like forever since I took that time out to do something for me.

So here’s my list of the little things and the small moments of joy that make me smile. I wonder if you’re similar to me.

1- Going to the cinema obvs!

2- An early night in bed with some trashy TV.

3- When some old school Take That comes on the radio during the nursery run… Cue squealing Mama and a confused Sprog.

4- A really good hot shower.

5- When a student attempts to dig themselves out of a hole for not having their homework and ends up making it ten times worse.

6- The cake brought it at work on a Friday is chocolate, lemon drizzle or red velvet.. Hint hint colleagues!

7- I manage to successfully block the sun out of my classroom and keep the air flowing…the blinds vs the windows is an ongoing battle!

8- The super cheesy grin that Sprog flashes me when I get him up from his nap.

9- I catch hubby unwittingly singing a Disney Princess song! This happens more often than you would think!

Tell me all about your small moments that make you smile!!
